MANDY'S TAKE
“This bar is a classic example of misleading marketing. With fruit imagery on the packaging, “low fat” and “high fibre” claims, and a 3-star Health Star Rating, it gives the impression of being a reasonable snack — especially for school kids. But when we analyse the ingredients, it tells a very different story. It’s made up of ultra-processed sugars, refined starches, flavourings, thickeners, and virtually no real fruit. Despite the health claims, this is a highly processed product that belongs in the confectionery aisle — not a lunchbox.”

- Contains carrageenan (407) — a Category D additive linked to gut inflammation
- The dough itself contains dough conditioners and thickeners, further removing it from anything resembling a wholefood product.

THE VERDICT
This bar is a prime example of how food manufacturers use health-washing to sell ultra-processed products. With fruit graphics, fibre claims, and a 3-star Health Star Rating, it’s cleverly marketed to appear school-lunchbox friendly. However, behnd the packaging is a formulation built on sweeteners and ultra-processed ingrdients and, additives with virtually no real fruit in sight. This kind of branding preys on time-poor parents who want to make better choices — and it’s exactly why we need stronger regulations to prevent confectionery-style products from being positioned as healthy snacks for children
