MANDY'S TAKE

“Bluey’s Fancy Fruit Bar might seem like a healthier choice thanks to its cute branding and a 4-star Health Star Rating (HSR). But don’t be fooled. Behind the cheerful packaging is a bar built on ultra-processed sugars, refined oils, additives, and fibre fillers. While it does contain whole grains and a small amount of fruit, the reality is it’s much closer to a confectionery snack than a real food option. It’s a classic example of how the HSR system can mislead parents.”

THE VERDICT

Despite its wholesome branding and 4-star Health Star Rating, Bluey’s Fancy Fruit Bar is far from a real food option. It’s built on ultra-processed sugars, refined oils, fibre fillers, and additives, including sulphur dioxide. While it does contain whole grains, these benefits are overshadowed by the heavy processing and misleading health halo. A classic example of how marketing can trick even the most well-intentioned shopper. There are far better wholefood-based snacks for kids that offer real nourishment — without the hype.
